On the Authorship of the Toccata and Fugue in D Minor

On the Authorship of the Toccata and Fugue in D Minor

On the Authorship of the Toccata and Fugue in D Minor
Tid: 17:01
The most famous organ piece in history is one that you've heard a million times, even if you don't know its name, and even if you don't know its composer -- which, spoiler alert, I'll tell you right now: it's the Toccata and Fugue in D minor, by Johann Sebastian Bach. At least, that's the traditional view. But some say that it wasn't written by him at all. Turns out to be a real detective story -- but where will it lead us?

Allmänbildning när den är som bäst

En gång i veckan får man sig en bra dos allmänbildning och kritiskt tänkande. Ämnena är alltid intressanta och Brian är alltid påläst.

Great skeptical podcast

This guy is an awesome skeptic, since he is bothering to give a real chance even to those things that might not really deserve it. He seems to do his research on the subjects and is highly devoted to his work. Great podcast.

Signal to Noice level very high

I love the variety of the subjects that Brian cover. And as much as anyone doing podcasts about widely different matters Brian getsit wrong at times and sometimes even manages to let his own opinions shine through. But what sets him out as a great person is that he invites everyone to correct him, and often does errata shows or announcements. It lends great credibility to the show and him as a person. And as he points out himself: no-one is right all the time.
Coupled to this high standard of ethics is a good no-nonsense recording that is short and to the point.

Surely within the top percentile of all skeptical podcasts!

Based on the other reviews so far I don't think there's much I need to add, but Brian and his supporters have continued to deliver consistently great results which I've enjoyed every week for years. I'm proud to report that Skeptoid was the first free podcast I voluteered donations towards and I'd encourage like-minded listeners to also contribute to such a worthy cause. Thanks!

A damn good start to question your own false beliefs

Every week Brian Dunning gives you the facts behind yet another scam, myth, urban legend or paranormal event. My favourites episodes are the ones where my own beliefs and convictions are challenged — it's the best way to grow as a human being, baby!

A brilliant podcast!

With a brief and to-the-point format, Brian Dunning strips out all of the pointless flare and focuses on what's interesting. Every week a new phenomenon is analyzed from a skeptic's point of view. The episodes are generally well researched and presented in context with a good portion of humor, aimed towards a broad target audience. The episodes are always fairly short (seldom more than 10 minutes) and easily digested, perfect for listening on the way to school or work. A brilliant podcast, tailored to suit the medium perfectly!

Brilliant stuff!

Mr. Dunning presents interesting topics and argues elegantly against such nonsens as homeopathy, conspiracy theories and ghosts. Each episode is rather short and to the point, and there is no annoying intro/outro music - which makes it perfect for back to back listening. One of my top 5 favorite podcasts ever!

Intelligent and witty

Among the best skeptical podcasts out there. Anyone interested in science, or pseudoscience, should listen to it. Especially recommended to teachers and students.

Great facts on stupid things people believe in.

For me it is obvious that Z, Y and Z are B-S, but Brian Dunning briefly explains why.
No respectable person can still believe in rods, wheatgrass juse or other similar things after spent a few minutes listening to this pod cast
This is so good that it should replace the 2 minute hate ritual every morning.

Entertaining and educational

Brian Dunning question different events and occurrences in an entertaining way. Unlike other podcasts with a similar theme, he never ridicules events or people, however he does use humour sometimes.
