Can’t even connect the robot to the network

I’ve downloaded the app and can’t even get pass the connect menu. When I’m trying to find my home network in the app it can’t find anything.

What am I supposed to use a “connect” robot if it can’t even do that?

Ständiga felmeddelanden och återställningar för att kunna starta dammsugaren. Supporten kommer med standardsvar trots problem i mer än två år. Dammsugaren åker till tippen nu med ett facit som är mer tid på att bråka med appen än faktisk dammsugning.

Använder flaggskeppsmodellen D7. Dammsugaren är väldigt bra, men appen är verkligen kass. När den stöter på problem skickar den notifiering till telefonen. Klickar man på att man vill veta mer om problemet skickar den till hemsida som inte existerar. Möjligheten att göra zoner fungerar knappt alls.

Given up on software updates

Don't bother to write anymore helpful rewievs here. No one at Neato cares. Let's face it: There won't be anymore app updates, ever. They might have you contact customer "support", where all they answer is that they are really sorry but don't know anything and can't do anything. Just run your Neato until either you or it gives up, then but another brand.

I have to start the robot manually, since the wi-fi function is broken. No support from the website or anywhere else. A pity. Won’t buy again Neato.

D7 after some months

English: The hardware seem to be fine. However the software running the machine is not. Has it really been tested enough in real world conditions?

What works? It did work fine when new. Though that also required a lot of manual work to remove obstacles to create a final map. It was not perfect either.

Summary: creating one single good map requires too much trouble. Updating a map requires the same.

Creating maps is the major flaw at the moment. (December 2019). Lifting chairs and furniture for a whole apartment is unacceptable to create a map. When doing so the machine might get stuck on minor hinders which it has previously managed. I have tried to make a complete map of the apartment, but it has failed for several days for various reasons. (getting stuck, ignoring a complete room with no hinder to it, a long curtain can break a whole map creation, battery low, bin full)

At this moment I can not create different maps for each room, because you can not get the machine to move from the station to a prepared room. Neither the magnet strip nor pushing buttons will get it to a desired place to make a map there. At writing time you can only make a map from the base and when started you cannot manually drive it.

The solution:

If it would be possible to record a manual drive to get from the station to a desired location to draw a map there automatically this would be useful. Being able to aid the thing when stuck while drawing a map this would also be needed. If it is stuck let the user drive it and record this move.

Without one or several maps to do cleaning I find the machine useless. I have carpets and the bin fills up quickly. So I have to do one room each day for vatious reasons. Without one or several maps that are acceptable nothing works. I am both angry and dissapointed for this. Hardware seem fine, but software is not acceptable. However, as a programmer I know that what I write about can be implemented and tested properly with relatively minor updates to the firmware and app. It is not a support issue but firmware and app updates that are needed.

Todo:

Update firmware and app to support user to make partial maps with some user input

Description: Support driving machine to a particular location, record the movements, then start new map from there. Support the magnet strip to limit the region. Request user to remove the magnet strip and use manual driving to return to base.

Result: different maps are used for various rooms.

Benefits: When a room is changed or the map has issues somehow only that one need to be redone. Making maps are more feasible in real situations. Less frustration by issues with maps.

Less furniture to move. Make life easier not harder. The machine works, less complaints and more recommendations.

Alternative:

Interact with and update an existing map. For example make a region for an area that need update. Then request an update for that. The machine will only go to update that part.

Another alternative could be to allow the user to teach the machine how to navigate a hinder, such as between doors. Usually driving diagonally works better than straight.

Update: After about a year or so I simply stopped using this robot for a while and bought a manual cleaner. I still find the map creation function to be very annoying. So far it seems useable by simply skippng the map (and optionally wifi). You can simply just press the button on the top of the robot to clean the entire apartment. Alternatively, maybe I will some day be able to create different maps for various rooms manually by placing the robot centrally, closing doors, and using the magnet strip.

Jag har haft olika robotar dom senaste 15 åren. Bland annat neato som fungerat utmärkt.

Nu verkar mjukvaru underhållet på appen och roboten spårat ur totalt.

Gör vad den ska✌️

Lätt använd och bra app. Har schemalagt all städning och avgränsat där den ej skall vara pga. kablar mm. Har en förvaringspall som den kilade fast under, men efter montage av möbeltassar under den så kryper den under där också.😀👍

Extremely painful connection process

There really is no excuse for the extremely painful process of resetting (!!!) and reconnecting the robot if your WIFI goes down once. Why can’t it just find the same WIFI itself?

Same if you happens to rename the network. No way in the app to simply choose WIFI.

Suddenly after a lot difficulty in getting the D7 on the WiFi it after two day says “App update required”?? The last update on the app is from 2019!, then it in other were in the App says, at the same time, “robot offline”, no other explaining in the App to move forward from here. On the D7 the WiFi icon lights constantly blue....so the robot is on the WiFi. Getting a little bit tired. Do not really know if I will recommend this D7 and it’s bad App.

Hade problem med att det kom upp att det behövdes en app uppdatering, men efter att jag chattat med supporten så krävdes det bara att hålla inne startknappen på robboten i 10 sekunder, så att den startade om, sedan försvann det meddelandet. Antagligen en bugg i systemet skrev han.

Best robots, but worse app

The robots are the best in the market. Believe me, I’ve tried many brands.

But they run out of money and ideas when it was time to build the app.

Making maps is almost impossible and most irritating is the fact that you can do NOTHING if the robot is stuck or need guidance; -the most important feature if you want to run the robot remotly.

Hardware does the job, app could be better

The has a nice looking design.

Would like to have a spot and house clean toggle close to the start instead of hiding it in the options - it's not intuitive.

Why does it now show the map and where it is at when it's running? There is just this large area and it makes you feel like there should be some live tracking going on.

Okay when it’s working

Our machine, D6, has worked great until we got trouble with our WiFi and needed to reboot the vacuum to a new WiFi. We’ve tried all the fixes published on the Neato webpage and som obscure solutions on different forums, but nothing works, the app keeps saying that I must connect to a network and not to the robot as I’m trying to set it up. The robot can’t find a single network even though there is at least 6 of them in this house. Totally terrible...

Worst piece of sht software ever

This must be the most dysfunctional software ever. Get stuck at: name your robot, can’t don’t my wifi need to type in manually, disconnects from WiFi when ever it feels like.

I got so fed up I actually threw it out the window. Luckily it only got a crack. But this must have been the most annoying installation ever. Still not fixed.

When adding restrictions, the vacuum doesn’t understand that it’s parked in the dock. When using Siri Shortcuts, the app doesn’t understand that the vacuum is operative, etc.....

Daylight saving time

I tried to add a schedule to clean weekdays at 9am. But due to daylight saving time, mon-wen will clean at 8am. If you don’t get this kind of things right, you start to wonder how the rest is...

Oh, if you try to move it one hour late, the result is: Thursday-Friday 10am, Monday-Wednesday 7am...

Try once again, move it one hour later. Thursday-Friday 11am, Monday-Wednesday 6am!

Several times a year I need to re-pair the machine with the app. It takes for ever. Need to close the app like 20 times to make it work.

This is far from smooth. And a million miles away from being smart.

Can’t connect to google WiFi

The D7 can’t handle the google WiFi meshes and always revert to being offline.

Once offline you are lucky to get to work even with the hardware buttons. Who build a household appliance like that?!

Medioker app

Mycket begränsad funktionalitet. Eftersom roboten inte klarar av att skapa en karta på en batteriladdning och sen inte hittar tillbaka till basstationen får jag ingen karta och kan sätta begränsningslinjer.

Hjälpen på hemsidan saknar beskrivning av vissa funktioner.

I just wish it could...

This app works great for me but there’s one thing I wish it could do.

When a Neato gets stuck or when you do a “spot clean” the Neato often looses orientation and isn’t able to find its way back to the dock. The Neato will try to find the dock for about 30 seconds and will then ask you to put it back. I wish it would search for a longer period of time before asking you for help.

The workaround is to put the Neato close to the base and choose “Spot Clean”. The neato will then find the base during cleaning and return to the base when done.

There is a “dock” button in the app but it goes gray when the neato has lost orientation. I wish this button was always available and that the Neato would simply hunt for the dock when it has lost orientation.

Not user friendly and slow

New design is too complicated for a simple on/off function particularly for the crazy ones who have more than one robot at home. But especially for those who invested so much one could expect Neato to work a bit harder and make the app function at ease and present multiple robots on a single page. Rather than have most of the screen used for animation.
